Are you a beginner? No drawing or embroidery experience is needed.
April 20th, 2015: A Verb for Keeping Warm, Oakland, CA: MODERN EMBROIDERED SAMPLER
Taking inspiration from the exercises in Rebecca Ringquist’s Embroidery Workshops: A Bend the Rules Primer, we’ll use sewing machines and simple hand embroidery stitches to create intricate, textured plaids and striped patterns over top of fabrics. These dense embroideries are suitable for framing, but can also be used as jumping off points for quilting, or as the fabric other sewing projects.
April 25th, 2015: Collage PDX, Portland, OR: DEMO & BOOK SIGNING
I'll be at Collage on Saturday, April 25th, demonstrating embroidery stitches and signing my new book. I hope to see you there!
July 20-26, 2015: Tyler School of Art: FROM PRECISION TO CHAOS: EMBROIDERY AS DRAWING
Using traditional drawing techniques as jumping off points, we will dive head first into making embroidered lines on fabric. We'll use the sewing machine and simple hand embroidery techniques as our drawing tools, and improvise to create new methods of accumulating marks. Students will quickly develop their own vocabulary, making layered, dense, additive designs. All levels welcome (no embroidery experience required), but students should be comfortable with a sewing machine.
